Types of Baccalaureate Degrees

Southeastern offers three types of baccalaureate degrees:

  • The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree is awarded for successful completion of a program of study that is primarily liberal arts and sciences.
  • The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree is awarded for successful completion of a program of study designed to lead to graduate study or entry into a particular profession.
  • The Bachelor of (Specialty) degree is awarded for successful completion of a program of study designed primarily for entry into an occupational field.

Undergraduate degrees are distinguished by the minimum amount of liberal arts and sciences required for each degree type:

The Bachelor of (Specialty) is restricted to a small number of fields in which traditional national practice or demands of the field require that the degree title include the name of the profession or discipline.
