The Master of Education in School Counseling prepares individuals with an academic background in education to assume the role of professional school counselor in elementary and secondary schools. The program prepares counselor trainees to facilitate the growth and development of young people through training in school counseling program development, consultation, career development, and intervention strategies in a multicultural context.

Program Admission Requirements

The applicant must meet the admission requirements of the School of Graduate Studies and the Master of Education School Counseling program, and hold a current and valid Teaching Certificate in any state.

Professional Associations

School counseling students are strongly encouraged to become student members of the American School Counselor Association along with their state affiliate.

Professional Liability Insurance

Students are required to obtain professional liability insurance prior to enrollment in the School Counseling Pre-Practicum course and must maintain coverage throughout the Practicum course.
