Types of Baccalaureate Degrees
Southeastern offers three types of baccalaureate degrees:
- The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree is awarded for successful completion of a program of study that is primarily liberal arts and sciences.
- The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree is awarded for successful completion of a program of study designed to lead to graduate study or entry into a particular profession.
- The Bachelor of (Specialty) degree is awarded for successful completion of a program of study designed primarily for entry into an occupational field.
Undergraduate degrees are distinguished by the minimum amount of liberal arts and sciences required for each degree type:
| Degree Type | Minimum Liberal Arts & Sciences Hours |
|---|---|
| Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) | At least 80 semester credit hours |
| Bachelor of Science (B.S.) | At least 55 semester credit hours |
| Bachelor of (Specialty) | At least 40 semester credit hours |
The Bachelor of (Specialty) is restricted to a small number of fields in which traditional national practice or demands of the field require that the degree title include the name of the profession or discipline.
